Quick verdict
NICETOWN's 100% blackout panels do the part a curtain can do: the fabric itself stops light, which the thinner room-darkening ranges do not. Whether your bedroom ends up dark depends on the part the curtain cannot do — the edges, the top and the centre gap — and that is a matter of rod width, a wraparound end and overlap. Buy them if you want the whole room dark and nothing on your face; buy a mask if you rent, travel or want darkness without hardware. Treat the noise-reduction claim as marketing, and plan for morning light separately.

The problem it addresses
A mask darkens one person. A curtain darkens the room, and it does so without asking anyone to wear anything — which is why couples, parents and people who simply hate things on their face end up here. Light from streetlamps, security lights and early summer sun reaches the retina through closed eyelids, and it does not take much to shift the second half of the night.
The catch is physics: a window is a hole in a wall and a curtain is a sheet hung in front of it. The fabric can be perfect and the room still leaks at every edge. Blackout curtains exist to solve the fabric half; the hanging half is yours.
Design & usability
The 100% blackout line stops light through the panel. Nothing in the pack stops light around it. Rod width, a wraparound end, ceiling-height mounting and centre overlap decide whether "blackout" describes your room or just your curtain.
Grommets slide on a plain rod and let the panels stack neatly, but they leave a gap between rod and fabric at the top. A pelmet, a wrap rod or simply mounting high closes it.
Any lined, heavy curtain slows heat exchange at the glass; NICETOWN's thermal-insulation claim is plausible in kind but unquantified. Do not buy them as insulation; treat it as a side benefit.
Heavy fabric reduces echo in the room, which some people perceive as quieter. It does not meaningfully reduce sound arriving through the window. For noise, see our sound and noise category.
A dark room at dawn removes the light cue your body clock uses. Pair the curtains with a fixed wake time and immediate daylight, or with a sunrise alarm.
Measure the window, then add overlap on each side. The fabric is heavy enough that flimsy tension rods sag; use a rod with proper brackets.

Practical setup
Extend the rod 8–12 inches past the frame on each side and mount as close to the ceiling as the wall allows. Most leakage is at the edges and the top.
A rod with curved ends lets the panel return to the wall, closing the side gap that a straight rod leaves.
Order panels wide enough to overlap by a few inches where they meet. Two panels that just touch leave a bright seam.
Blackout curtains delay your daylight cue. Make opening them the first act of the morning, or use a sunrise alarm.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| NICETOWN blackout curtains (this review) | Bright bedrooms, streetlights, shift work, and couples where one person refuses a mask. | A light-blocking backing that stops light through the fabric itself. | Edge leakage is a hanging problem the curtain cannot solve for you. | Amazon ↗ |
| Manta PRO | Side sleepers and shift workers who need daytime-grade darkness and have been let down by flat masks. | Movable C-shaped eye cups that seal on bone, not eyelid. | Bulk and price: it is the largest and dearest mask in our catalogue. | Amazon ↗ |
| MZOO | First-time contoured-mask buyers who sleep on their back or side and want darkness at a sensible price. | Moulded cups that keep fabric off the eyelids at a fraction of the modular masks' price. | The cups do not move, so the seal at the nose is take-it-or-leave-it. | Amazon ↗ |
| Philips SmartSleep HF3520 | Dark-morning wakers who want light as the cue and nothing connected. | A 30-minute coloured sunrise to a published 300 lux, with no app. | A dated design with only five sounds and FM radio. | Amazon ↗ |

The SleepOriginal verdict
Choose these when the problem is the room. Light through a window affects everyone in the bed, and a proper blackout panel is the only fix that requires nobody to wear anything. NICETOWN's 100% line has the backing that makes the fabric genuinely opaque, which is the part that separates it from decorative "room-darkening" curtains.
Then do the part the curtain cannot: mount wide, mount high, wrap the ends and overlap the centre. Skip them if you cannot hang them properly, and pair them with a deliberate morning-light habit or a sunrise alarm so the darkness does not follow you into the morning.
Questions
The fabric is. The "100% blackout" line has a light-blocking backing that stops light passing through the panel itself, which the cheaper room-darkening ranges do not. What they cannot do is stop light coming around the edges, over the top or through the gap where panels meet — that depends on how you hang them.
Mount the rod several inches wider than the frame so the panels overlap the wall, use a wraparound (curved-end) rod so the fabric returns to the wall, hang the top close to the ceiling or add a pelmet, and overlap the two panels in the middle. Side tracks or magnetic strips finish the job for shift workers.
Only marginally. Heavy fabric softens reverberation inside the room, which can make a space feel quieter, but it does little against traffic or neighbours coming through the glass. For noise, look at earplugs or a sound machine.
Curtains if you want the room dark for everyone and nothing on your face; a mask if you travel, rent, or want total darkness without carpentry. Many people use both: curtains for the room, a mask for the last five percent.
They remove the dawn light that helps set your body clock, so a dark room can make mornings groggier unless you replace that cue — open the curtains as soon as the alarm goes, or pair them with a sunrise alarm such as the Hatch Restore 3 or Philips SmartSleep.
The listing resolves to White, 84 inches long, two panels. Our catalogue lists the 52-inch-wide panel; check the width selector on the listing before ordering and measure your window with 8–12 inches of overlap each side.
