The problem it addresses
Why the Coop Original exists
When you lie down, the gap between your head and the mattress is what a pillow has to fill, and that gap is different for everyone and different again in each position. A side sleeper's is roughly the width of a shoulder; a back sleeper's is far smaller; a stomach sleeper's is close to nothing. A fixed pillow either matches your gap or it does not.
The Coop Original exists to make that height something you adjust. Cross-cut fill can be scooped out through a zip or added from the spare bag, so the loft is set to your body rather than to the average of everyone who bought the same model. You may also see it sold as the "Coop Home Goods Original Adjustable Pillow" — the Amazon listing still carries the company's former name.

What adjusting the fill changes
Height, and with it softness: less fill is lower and gives more, more fill is higher and firmer. It ships full; most people will remove some. That is the entire feature, and the pillow is only as good as your willingness to use it.

That any particular height will feel right to you, that the fill will hold that height night after night, or that the foam will run cool enough. Those are things a sleeper finds out in use; we have not tested them and the page does not claim to know.

Which Coop Original does this review cover?
The rectangular Original Adjustable Pillow in Queen (Classic), which Coop lists at 19 × 29 inches, sold on Amazon under ASIN B00EINBSEW. The listing is still titled "Coop Home Goods"; the company now trades as Coop Sleep Goods and the pillow is the same line. The Original body pillow and the shaped Cut-Out and Crescent versions are different products — check the model, shape and size on the listing before ordering.
What changes when I remove some of the filling?
Only the height and, with it, how much the pillow gives. Less fill lowers your head and makes the pillow softer; adding from the spare bag raises it and firms it. What it cannot tell you is which height will feel right: that is something you find by adjusting in the position you sleep in most and checking that your neck stays level. Adjusting is easier going down than up, so remove a little at a time.
How is the rectangular Original different from the Cut-Out and the body pillow?
Same adjustable fill, different shapes. The Original is a rectangle that works in any position. The Cut-Out has a notch at the front edge so a side sleeper's shoulder tucks under the pillow; Coop also sells a curved Crescent. Coop documents a hypoallergenic blend of cross-cut memory foam and microfibre inside a 100% polyester liner, with a Lulltra cover of 60% polyester and 40% bamboo-derived viscose rayon, CertiPUR-US foam and GREENGUARD Gold certification. We have not measured its heat retention, firmness, durability or how well it holds a given loft; where the page mentions those, it is reasoning from the materials or citing named reviewers, not our own testing.
How should I wash and dry this pillow?
Per Coop's care page: wash the outer cover in cold water on a delicate cycle without fabric softener or bleach, and tumble dry low until completely dry. The inner pillow can also be washed — pin the zip shut first so fill cannot escape — in cold water on a delicate cycle, then tumble dry low one pillow at a time until the fill is completely dry inside, which can take several cycles. Damp foam should not go back on the bed.
I am buying on Amazon — does the 100-night trial apply?
Coop advertises a 100-night sleep trial and its returns page offers a prepaid label, but that page states it excludes Amazon purchases and directs Amazon buyers to Coop customer service instead. It does not say Amazon orders have no trial; it says the process is different. Before relying on a trial, check the return conditions on the Amazon listing and, if in doubt, ask Coop. The five-year warranty is a limited one covering manufacturer defects and needs an order number.
