Air through vents. The texture is softer and less "synthetic" than generated noise, which is a matter of taste rather than quality. It is also physically incapable of looping.

A real fan. A small motor spins a fan inside a two-part shell with vents; twisting the shell changes how the air escapes and therefore the tone. There is no speaker and no recording, which is why the sound can never loop.
How loud does the Dohm Classic get?
Loud enough for a normal bedroom, not for a noisy one. Yogasleep does not publish a decibel figure and we have not measured it, but a fan this size is physically limited. If you need to cover a busy street or a loud snorer, the LectroFan Classic goes considerably louder.
What does the tone dial do?
