Product Licence

What you can do with what you bought — and how to get permission for more.

When you buy a guide from us you are buying a licence to use it, not ownership of it. This page says plainly what that licence lets you do. If what you want to do is not covered here, ask us — the answer is usually yes, sometimes for a fee, and always faster than guessing.

What you are buying

A licence — permission to use our work under stated conditions. We keep the copyright and every other intellectual property right in our guides, journals and templates. Nothing here transfers ownership of anything to you.

The licence is non-exclusive (we license the same work to others) and non-transferable (you cannot give or sell it on). It begins when your payment is confirmed.

The Professional licence is the same book. There is no separate professional edition and no extra content — you are buying wider usage rights, not different material.

Personal Licence

For your own use. Lifetime access.

Allows

• Reading on your own devices.
• Printing for personal use.
• Keeping the edition you bought, permanently.
• Short quotations with attribution.

Does not allow

• Sharing the file with others.
• Professional or client use.
• Reselling.
• Rebranding.
• Public uploading.
• AI or model training.

Professional Licence

For use with your own clients. 12-month licence.

Allows

• Everything the Personal licence allows.
• Providing copies to your own clients.
• Printing copies for client use.
• Using reasonable extracts in one-to-one professional work.
• Updates while the licence is active.

Does not allow

• Reselling.
• Rebranding.
• Removing SleepOriginal attribution or copyright notices.
• Public uploading.
• Transferring the licence to another professional.
• Using the material as the primary content of a competing paid course or product.
• AI or model training.

Rules that apply to both

• No use of our material to train, fine-tune or evaluate machine learning models, and no inclusion of it in a dataset assembled for that purpose.
• No removal or alteration of our name, authorship or copyright notices.
• No rebranding, white-labelling, or presenting our work as your own.
• No automated or bulk downloading.
• Short quotations with attribution are always fine, and always welcome.

A word on AI training

We have written that clause deliberately rather than inheriting it from a template. Our guides are long-form instructional prose, which is exactly the material that gets scraped into training corpora, and a licence silent on it would fairly be read as not minding. We do mind. Using our work to train, fine-tune or evaluate a model, or putting it into a dataset assembled for that purpose, is outside both licences.

Free guides

Our free guides exist to be passed on, and we would rather you did.

• Please do share it — send people the signup link and we will give them their own copy.
• The file itself is for you: don't repost it, mirror it, or attach it to a mailing list.
• The universal rules above still apply, including no use for AI training.
• Free guides are not covered by the Professional licence.

Getting a Professional licence

Choose Professional on any paid product page and give the name it should be issued to. You get the same book, a licence document naming you, and twelve months of use with your own clients.

One named professional per licence. If there are several of you, each needs their own — the licence is tied to a person, not to a practice.

Refunds and termination

• A full refund ends the licence and withdraws access to the files it covered.
• A chargeback is treated the same way as a full refund.
• A partial refund does not end anything. You keep what you bought.
• A Professional licence ends 12 months after it starts unless it is renewed.
• Copies already given to your clients while a Professional licence was active stay valid for those clients after it ends.
• Serious breach — reselling, or publishing our files — ends the licence immediately.

Licence versioning

Every purchase records the licence version in force when it was made, and that version governs it for good. The version is printed on your invoice and, for Professional purchases, on your licence document.

If we publish a later version it applies to new purchases only. We do not change the terms of a sale after it has been made.

How you agreed to this

Before paying, you ticked a box saying:

I accept the Product Licence (v1-2026) and the Terms, and I request immediate access to my digital purchase. I understand that once access begins I lose my 14-day right to cancel.

We store the exact wording you were shown, with the date and the licence version, against your order.

How we handle breaches

Proportionately, and by talking to you first. Almost every breach we see is someone being generous rather than dishonest — forwarding a guide to a friend who is struggling, or giving it to a client without realising that needed a different licence. A note asking you to stop, or to upgrade, is what you should expect.

Reselling our work, or publishing it where anyone can download it, is a different matter, and we will act on it.
